Greeting MSoP Community,
The year 2020 has brought all of us many challenges. First among these has been social distancing requirements brought about by Covid-19. Sadly, our planned workshop with Mushana Ali, the 9th Annual Membership Exhibit and scheduled General Membership meetings have all been postponed or cancelled due to concerns for our members’ well being.
The MSoP Board has worked hard to find new methods of keeping our members engaged, entertained and educated. One of our first efforts, Mosaic Monday on MSoP’s private Facebook page has gotten great reviews. Every Monday a different presenter shares on unique topic to inspire our members. Members are encouraged to comment, ask questions and post similar examples of their own work. Those interested in being a featured presenter for future Mosaic Mondays should forward an email to mosaicsocietyofphila@gmail.com with a description of their proposed topic.
Our members told us that they miss our general membership meetings. In response, MSoP has scheduled a virtual meeting for July 19th using Zoom. We will be able to catch up on MSoP news, learn from presenters and have a chance to converse with the presenters and others. Be on the lookout for updated information with instructions how to join us for this virtual meeting.
We bid a fond farewell to Carol Rydel from the board and her role as MSoP President. Carol has energized MSoP during her tenure and brought a fresh perspective to the board. We will miss her but rest assured that she is not going far. Carol will take over as the chair of the Mosaic Trading Card exchange. Look for more information to be forthcoming soon about this popular staple of MSoP meetings.
MSoP joins the larger arts community in expressing our commitment to anti-racist and inclusive policies. Our expanded statement of commitment now appears on the ABOUT tab of the MSoP website.
Despite current obstacles, MSoP remains committed to promoting mosaics in our region. The Board is engaged in exploring new ways to connect with our membership and provide the quality experience that our members have come to expect.
Now, let’s go break some glass!
Veronica Kairos, President
